Amanda Kulik Named Academic All-America District I Second Team
Nov. 3, 2005 Poughkeepsie, N.Y. - Marist women's soccer senior Amanda Kulik (Kinnelon, N.J.) has been named to the 2005 CoSIDA Academic All-America District I Second Team. Two teams made up of 11 student-athletes each were selected to represent District I, which includes schools from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont and Canada. Kulik, is one of four defenders on the District I Second Team from a competitive ballot that included over 20 defenders. The Academic All-America teams were voted upon by members of the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA). In order to qualify for the ballot, the student athlete must be a starter or significant reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and at least a 3.20 grade point average in both undergraduate and graduate work. The members of each district's First Team move on to the national ballot. A psychology/special education major, Kulik, boasts a 3.86 grade point average, second highest on her team. She has been named to the Marist College Dean's List six times out of six semesters and is a three-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team member. This season, Kulik served as team captain and played in all 19 games at defender, starting 17. She emerged as a scoring threat for the first time in her career, tallying three goals including two MAAC game winners. She ranks seventh on the Career Games Played list with 73 appearances.
Kulik's squad finished with a record of 5-12-2 (3-5-1 MAAC) this season, earning the sixth seed in the MAAC Tournament at Disney World. The Red Foxes knocked off third seed Siena, 2-0 in the quarterfinals before falling to second seeded Niagara, 2-1 in overtime in the semifinal round.
